Over Involved Parents

Over Involved Parents

Amberlin Rudnicki

Colleges are worried about helicopter parents because there has been an increase in parent attendance to orientations. Most of the orientations are for students only and parents still come. Parents have started to fill out registrations for students without the student even being there. Colleges have attempted to distract parents from student orientations. Colleges have started a program by itself to answer calls, emails and questions of JUST parents and not even the students. Some students are thankful for their parent’s help while others wish to be left alone to get the experience of college by themselves. Most of the parents do this to help their child succeed and let the child know that their not alone.

Colleges are doing this so the students may have the experience of college and so the STUDENT will have the major, degrees, and business associates, Etc. that THEY want not what the parents want. The students would benefit from this because it lets them figure out how to live on their own and so that they may have a growing and learning experience.

My parents will try their best to help me as much as they can but will not hover over me and take away the experience. They will let me find my own way but will still be there if I get “lost”.

In my opinion I think Parents should try their best to help their child succeed but not fill out their application for without them. I think parents should always be there for their child but let them have the experience of going to college and learning how to be on their own. If parents would help their child keep a safe distances but let them know they “got their backs” that would let the student have the best chance of succeeding in college.

In conclusion colleges are trying to prevent helicopter parents, the colleges are doing his so the students may better succeed, it would benefit from this, my parents would be helicopters, and I think parents shouldn’t helicopter but still try to make sure their child succeeds.

Mega Bucks

Mega Bucks

This article talks about OSU and its high budget of $109,382,222. It also shows the budgets of other schools and how OSU has the highest budget in the nation. The article tells you about what the school buys for the teams and how much it costs like the jet time and the renovations of the football team’s private facility that cost $19.4 million. The football facility contains a players-only entrance, a lounge that has six flat-panel TVs, three videogame systems and a juice bar. Also Ohio has the third poorest city in the U.S. due to the payments to the school and games for football or any other sport.

The football team raises their money buy revenue from the games and winning the national championships. The basketball team got a $9 million profit for winning their national championship.

The UF football team made $34 million last year for winning the national championships. The schools are using this money to pay for the costs of the football team and to pay for scholar ships.

It is important to have a strong football team because without the football teams these schools would have a significantly less amount of money to pay for the students. If there wasn’t a strong football team the school wouldn’t have enough money for scholarships since people wouldn’t want to go to the games so they wouldn’t get the money from the revenue for that and they wouldn’t have the money for the basic needs of the team.

In my opinion I think OSU shouldn’t get as much money as they do because they are using the money for more luxuries instead of necessities when there are schools that don’t have enough money to have sports teams at their campus. If OSU didn’t spend as much money as they do the towns and cities of Ohio would have more money to live instead of having the third poorest city in the country.

In conclusion OSU is the richest school in the country, it has the third poorest city in the country, the teams raise most of their own money, UF has made $34 million on the championship from last year, it is very important to have a strong football team, and I think OSU should get as much funding’s as thy do.

Impossible Dream?

The Impossible Dream?

This article talks about a college student named Paul Dinehart who is struggling with his college classes and work. It talks about how he has more than 3 jobs and is having difficulties finding the time to study. It also talks about a dying tradition where people try to work through college but that is dying out because most students either don’t have enough money even with the jobs or doesn’t have study time therefore they fail the class. Most students drop out to save money so they can re-enroll and not worry about an expense which is what Mr. Dinehart had to do.

Students have to work their way through college because they or their parents don’t have enough money to put them through college and not have financial problems.

To lower dropout rates the schools should lower their prices for classes and the government and everybody should lower prices to make life easier for everyone. Students would drop out less and wouldn’t have to worry about financial problems.

I plan on paying for school with scholarships and saved money. I am in a sport right now it is the girl weightlifting team, I am going to be on the softball team as well also the girls’ flag football team. I am going to either UCF or UF for a double major in engineering and advanced weaponry. I am going to work for an engineering firm for at most 4 years and then go back for a minor in business management. I will have scholarships for my classes and will have saved money to pay.

In my opinion I think that students shouldn’t work through college and if they have to they should work 20 hours at most for study time and class time. If students work to much they will not have enough time to study for tests and classes and will also be exhausted.

In conclusion the time Mr. Dinehart spent at work was leaving him exhausted and no study time for his classes and tests. Students are having a hard time staying in college because they and/or their parents don’t have enough money to put them through college without financial problems.

Over Involved Parents
Over the past few years the act of “helicopter” parenting has become a nationwide issue for colleges. Schools have started programs or hired full time staff members just to field parents’ emails or calls. Others hold orientations just to inform the parents and keep them away from the students’ sessions. At some of the parent student orientations, more parents will show up than the students. Some schools sometimes have “student bouncers” to keep the parents trying to attend registration diverted so they can be told that their “not invited” to these events. Most parents don’t know the difference of when their needed and when they need to push the kid “out of the nest”. Administrators prefer the students to pick their majors and courses. Most parents assume that their children don’t know the basic safety rules and that they don’t know that they need their textbooks. This just shows that the helicopter parents don’t trust their children enough to let them “do their own thing”.
Schools are doing this so that the students may study and learn without their parents interfering with them. The schools wish to give the students the best possible education for them and the parents are disrupting the process by being over involved. Sometimes a parent will show up with no student to sign them up for registration, this has started coming up more and more.
I think the schools are correct for doing this because if they let the parents do their helicopter ways then the students wont be able to learn on their own, which college is a learning experience. The schools should be able to do what they want to help the students. I also think the schools should be allowed to make the parents stop with no questions asked. Yes the students will benefit this.
My parents will help me as much as they can but not to the point that im telling them to go away.
I think this article is opinionated and true.

XGAMES
This article is mainly about how companies have sponsored people in the XGAMES to publicize their business. It talks about how the companies protect themselves from other companies. This tells you how Shaun White became so famous with his sponsors and how he started his own line of jackets and snowboarding pants called “White Collection”. It shows how White’s income of sponsoring is just a grain of sand compared to Tiger Woods’ payment. This article tells how most companies will have a contract so that the person or people signing for that sponsor won’t be able to sign off with another sponsor that sells the same things as them.
The XGAMES has become so popular for sponsors because they get more and more viewers every year. So the companies saw that as an opportunity to get more publicized and get more sales for the company. Sponsors are all about keeping their person from signing off with someone else, so if the person being sponsored ends up signing of with someone else but still has the original sponsor the original sponsor will make sure that the products they sell are specified so people won’t get mixed up and not go there. If a sponsor doesn’t want their sponsored to sign off they will either pay them more or get them more equipment.
Businesses want XGAMES athletes to endorse their products because if the athletes wear them and the fans love they athletes, he companies hope that the fans will buy the equipment that the athlete is wearing. Since more and more people have been joining and watching the XGAMES sponsors have realized that there is a business opportunity for them to get more sales.
XGAMES athletes’ salaries have jumped in the past few years because of all the publicity they have been getting from fans and sponsors. Most of the athletes that won the XGAMES usually got from $10,000 to about $12,000, now they get from about $100,000 to app. $1,000,000. Winnings have jumped very high.
In 1993 ESPN decides to devout resources to a gathering of extreme sports. In 1994 At a press conference at Planet Hollywood in New York City ESPN announces that the first Extreme Games will be held in Rhode Island.
In summation, the XGAMES help new athletes to get famous and sponsored. The XGAMES help sponsors to get more costumers and publicity. Salaries of XGAMES winners have jumped to extreme amounts, and the XGAMES started in 1994.

  1. What is marketing and why is satisfying costumers so important?
Marketing is an important business function, it is "planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational objectives." Another definition of marketing is the creation and maintenance of satisfying exchange relationships. Creation is product development, Maintenance means continue as long as business operates, Satisfaction implies that you must meet the needs of both businesses and costumers when exchanging products services, and finally Exchange Relationship means people both give and recieve something of value. Marketing Mix is to perform the tasks associated with marketing.
   2. What is sports marketing and what are some sports marketing strategies?
Sports Marketing is using sports to market products. A Target Market is a specific group of people you want to reach. For a company to promote and sell products and services, the company must know the wants and needs of the target market. The company must learn specific information like the age ranges in the group, marital status, gender, educational level, attitudes and beliefs, and income. Disposable income is income that can be freely spent, is important too.

My Summer:
My summer started off slow; staying home, sleeping, watching tv. After the second week of summer me and my family went to a condo in Daytona Beach that my mom's friend owns. We ended up swimming in the pool, in the ocean, and tanning. Me my mom and my sis tanned but not my dad and brother though. Two days before we left we went down to the peer. There was music, games, rides, and food. We ended up playing in the game rooms for almost two hours!
When we got back to the condo we had won prizes like mini airplanes, candy, a piggy bank and a The Pice is Right dvd game. by brother loved this game he had so much fun with it.After we went home we rested up for the next trip. we went to Wokiva spings with my uncle and cousins. The smell was terible at first but we got used to the smell of sulfer. We stayed at Wokiva for about five hours. After wokiva we went to a HUGE fireworks display. It was so bright we could see the ground even though it was pitch black outside. We went home after that and watched movies, then went to bed.

What I expect for the upcoming year:
I expect to ha at least four-seven A's. All my classes are harder but easy enough for me to be proficient. I expect to make new friends, and have fun. I plan to be not so shy and actually raise my hand to answer questions instead of waiting for the teacher to call on me. I want to finally get into a relationship because thelast one didnt work out. I plan to learn new things everyday, and a new language. I expect to be friends
with my teachers and have great friends.
This year I am going to most of the football games and I AM going to homecoming...(date optional) haha. I am going to have fun and chill with my friends but get my work done first. I plan to not loose my locker combination for once (hint I have used it more than I did last year and it is only day three) and I am going to join the softball team when we are in season. I decided that this will be the begining of my new life of wisdom and happiness.

Changes at Pine Ridge:
Pine Ridge has changed alot even though this is my first year. I have been coming to this school for almost five  years already because of my brother,Austin, and sister,Cheyanne. I came here for them because of football games, football meetings, JR.ROTC meetings, JR.ROTC shows, cheerleading practice, SSEMS Acadamy meetings, and even homecoming. Thats off topic but true; the school has also changed because of the pride time, it takes away time for lunch wich isnt good because it is really hard to get lunch in a long line like that. PRHS has also changed because they took away the warning bell wich in some cases it is really hard to get to class now, we fresmen are fine without it because we have never had one, but the softmores jrs and seniors are having a hard time.
