The Impossible Dream?
This article talks about a college student named Paul Dinehart who is struggling with his college classes and work. It talks about how he has more than 3 jobs and is having a hard time finding the time to study. It also talks about a dying tradition where people try to work through college but that is dying out because most students either don’t have enough money even with the jobs or doesn’t have study time therefore they fail the class. Most students drop out to save money so they can re-enroll and not worry about an expense which is what Mr. Dinehart had to do.
Students are having to work their way through college because they or their parents don’t have enough money to put them through college and not have financial problems.
To lower dropout rates the schools should lower their prices for classes and the government and everybody should lower prices to make life easier for everyone. Students would drop out less and wouldn’t have to worry about financial problems.
I plan on paying for school with scholarships and saved money. I am in a sport right now it is the girl weightlifting team, I am going to be on the softball team as well also the girls’ flag football team. I am going to either UCF or UF for a double major in engineering and advanced weaponry. I am going to work for an engineering firm for at most 4 years and then go back for a minor in business management. I will have scholarships for my classes and will have saved money to pay.
In my opinion I think that students shouldn’t work through college and if they have to they should work 20 hours at most for study time and class time. If students work to much they will not have enough time to study for tests and classes and will also be exhausted.
In conclusion the time Mr. Dinehart spent at work was leaving him exhausted and no study time for his classes and tests. Students are having a hard time staying in college because they and/or their parents don’t have enough money to put them through college without financial problems.

XGAMES
This article is mainly about how companies have sponsored people in the XGAMES to publicize their business. It talks about how the companies protect themselves from other companies. This tells you how Shaun White became so famous with his sponsors and how he started his own line of jackets and snowboarding pants called “White Collection”. It shows how White’s income of sponsoring is just a grain of sand compared to Tiger Woods’ payment. This article tells how most companies will have a contract so that the person or people signing for that sponsor won’t be able to sign off with another sponsor that sells the same things as them.
The XGAMES has become so popular for sponsors because they get more and more viewers every year. So the companies saw that as an opportunity to get more publicized and get more sales for the company. Sponsors are all about keeping their person from signing off with someone else, so if the person being sponsored ends up signing of with someone else but still has the original sponsor the original sponsor will make sure that the products they sell are specified so people won’t get mixed up and not go there. If a sponsor doesn’t want their sponsored to sign off they will either pay them more or get them more equipment.
Businesses want XGAMES athletes to endorse their products because if the athletes wear them and the fans love they athletes, he companies hope that the fans will buy the equipment that the athlete is wearing. Since more and more people have been joining and watching the XGAMES sponsors have realized that there is a business opportunity for them to get more sales.
XGAMES athletes’ salaries have jumped in the past few years because of all the publicity they have been getting from fans and sponsors. Most of the athletes that won the XGAMES usually got from $10,000 to about $12,000, now they get from about $100,000 to app. $1,000,000. Winnings have jumped very high.
In 1993 ESPN decides to devout resources to a gathering of extreme sports. In 1994 At a press conference at Planet Hollywood in New York City ESPN announces that the first Extreme Games will be held in Rhode Island.
In summation, the XGAMES help new athletes to get famous and sponsored. The XGAMES help sponsors to get more costumers and publicity. Salaries of XGAMES winners have jumped to extreme amounts, and the XGAMES started in 1994.
